ARAG Legal Plan Review

     This review of ARAG is written from the customers perspective as an employee. ARAG has been offering legal plans for 35 years and this experience is evident in their service, lawyer network, and worldwide coverage. They currently service one million plan members from five hundred different plan sponsors. ARAG will write an individual policy but mainly cater to companies and underwrite services to fit each of their clients needs. Cost varies on plan design, but the average cost is around $200 per year and is payroll deducted on a monthly basis.

    As any quality plan would state, you cannot use the service to take action against ARAG themselves, or the plan sponsor(Your Employer). This is important to consider when shopping for a plan for your employees. A toll free number is provied for contacted them as well as a stellar website after the re-design in 2006. A plan member can now, log into their account, find a network attorney and contact that attorney, get their legal questions answered/issue resolved, and that is the end of the transaction. Just have your Member number handy, its the laywer's responsibility to file the claim and recieve money for services rendered. I have received a survey from ARAG after every contact with an attorney so they are very interested in your experience.

    The past few years, the lawyer network has been growing rapidly and you can now find some face to face services in rural areas. This was previsoulsy unheard of as of a few years ago. I have had experience with four of the ARAG attorney's and have been quite impressed all four occasions. On the two phone occasions, we were able to handle the issue with a phone call, and faxing a few documents. On the two face to face visits, I was equally impressed as I was treated professionally and courtesly, like I was a paying customer. The cost is so low for these plans, you really do not feel like a paying customer. But this is a good thing and shows the power of prepaid legal plans in general once you begin to leverage their potential.

     One of the things that sticks out is in the consumer protection category, they will actually fully cover you as a plantiff. Not many legal plans offer these type services, most only for protection as a defendant. Another added value you receive as an ARAG plan member is financial planning and advice from professionals in the industry.

In Summary, Becoming a part of ARAG is an honest win(ARAG) win(Employer) win(Employee) situation, from my point of view. ARAG has some added benefits that other companies do not offer(financial planning, customer protection as a plantiff) along with excellent customer service, functional user friendly website, and many years experience in the industry. The negatives are that patents, copyrights, judgements, court appeal proceedings, real estate insurance disputes and a few other rare cases are not covered.
